Valerio is a solitary adolescent who is unable to enjoy his marvellous age, unlike many of his peers: he limits himself to observing his companions, trying to imitate them and find excuses to behave like them, but keeping his distance. In an unceasing, ambivalent conflict, he both seeks and avoids their presence, isolating himself from the world around him and withdrawing into nature, the sky, the river and the trees. One day, an unexpected event suddenly turns his world upside down, leading him to make a fatal mistake. The longest night of the year has just come to an end, and with great courage, the boy heads towards his punishment. Valerio will be crushed by the weight of his guilt and will never be the same again.
